The Redmond giant has been working on the revised operating system since December 2007, and has managed to slim it down so that it runs off a 2GB flash memory card. Despite this, the company maintains that it's a feature complete version of the OS. HTC is bullish about sales of the T-Mobile G1, claiming it expects to shift 600,000 of the Android-based handsets this year. Speaking to the MercuryNews website, Peter Chou, chief executive of HTC, admitted sales of the smartphones were outstripping early estimates: "We should be doing good numbers, but I can't disclose the details. It will be more than what we originally planned. I'm saying we will ship more than 600,000." Google has reached a legal settlement with major publishers that paves the way for readers to search through millions of copyrighted books online, browse passages and purchase copies. The settlement will see Google pay ÂŁ80 million to create a Book Rights Registry, where authors and publishers can register works and receive compensation from institutional subscriptions or book sales.
